Silver Answer Medal for All Time! 440 Answers Recycling and reusing plastic bottles is a great way to minimize environmental impact and save money. Make this case from a shampoo bottle to house pens and craft supplies. Impress and interest people around you with your sustainable efforts.
Total Time: 1 Hour
Supplies:
- shampoo bottle
- plastic bottle
- strong threads
- zipper, length depends on the size of the shampoo bottle
- knife
- scissors
- awl
- needle
- pencil
- ruler
- squared paper
- mat or several sheets of paper
Steps:
- Remove the stickers from the shampoo bottle.
- Cut off the top and bottom. Cut lengthwise on one side.
- Cut a flat piece from the transparent plastic bottle. Trace the sides of the cut shampoo bottle so that the spacing between the cut along the edges is 0.9 inches - for the zipper. Cut out these two pieces. Cut a strip 0.9 inches wide in the middle of one piece.
- Now you need to make holes at the edges at the same distance. Make a paper template: draw a line on the squared paper - for the edge, mark the holes for 0.3 inches from the edge. Place the transparent pieces on top of this template and make holes at the edges (rotate pieces).
If your shampoo bottle is not transparent, make a template out of the transparent plastic bottle in the same way. Place this template on top of the cut shampoo bottle and make holes around the edges.
- Sew the edges with a blanket stitch.
- Sew all parts of the case.
- Sew on the zipper.
- Your case is ready. Fill it up and enjoy it. You can use it as a pencil case or as a case for glasses or for other things.

I love using my 'recycling' bin as a source for crafts. Thank you for another idea.
