My short haired cat seems to molt excessively all year round. It is driving me crazy. Is combing her regularly actually encouraging the growth as its getting to the point when I'm starting to believe she is molting on purpose just to wind me up or get extra attention? Haha!

I would buy a bottle of Vetricyn, and see if the cat will let you spray the itchy spots with it. Next, I would pour a small amount of coconut or olive oil in her food or give it plain. 1/4 tsp or so. Then I would switch to a no grain food such as Rachel Ray or other non corn based food. Finally I would feed the cat a formula made of evaporated milk with a bit of water added ( I usually mix one can of evaporated milk with one can of water. I add a couple of eggyolks (no whites) a tsp. of corn syrup, and about five or so drops of baby vitamin drops. Some people like to put gelatin in with this mix. Put in shakable container ( I use a large coke bottle) and place in the fridge.
Thank you for your information, but fortunately, Socks' only problem is more mine than hers. She is purrfectly well, but she just sheds sooooo much hair ALL THE TIME.
Diamond 's fur is Shiney she's not scratching she eats very well, and she's a hunter (she gives me her kills .and exspects praise)she's to busy playing with the brush for me to brush properly she is very fury she has long fluffy fur .
Generally speaking, this is a diet issue. Excessive shedding, dry skin and non-shiny fur are often caused by lack of fats in the diet, especially omega 3's. These can be bought and added to the food. Often changing to a higher quality food with fewer fillers or grain-free solves the issue.
