I have a Bombay cat who is about a year old. She keeps jumping into our empty garbage can. Whenever we get her out of there she jumps right back in. Why does she keep doing this? She never bothered it when it had a bag full of garbage, but when its completely empty she always jumps in.

This is obviously a fun game for your cat. If you don't want her jumping in there, get her something she can jump in, like her own bin.
What a sweetie! She must like the smell, sound or feel of the can. If you don't want her getting in that, best to redirect her with treats to an acceptable alternative! Sounds like she is an energetic one!
