Cause of Strong Odor on Clothes?

One day I was going to school and I realized that people were covering their noses and sniffing when I walked past them. I didn't really think about. Once I went home I took a sniff of my clothes and they smelled horrible. I used vinegar, baking, and borax. I still to this day don't know why my clothes smell even though I put them in the laundry.

Please does someone have some advice on what to do. Also when I put my clothes in the washer and then I put them in the dryer, my dryer smells weird. Is it my dryer that needs a fix?

If it is body odor than detergent should take it out. Make sure you are showering daily and washing clothing that touches your skin every wearing.

Hi,

It is probably your dryer. I would wipe the inside of the dryer down, with apple cider vinegar, then let dry.
I would also vacuum out the lint filter to make sure there is not a restriction of air flow there.

I would then take the exhaust hose up and vacuum it out.
Here is a link to some common reasons that dryers develop odors:

As a last resort, I would have a repairman come out and try to find the source of the odor.

I wish you the best on getting your dryer smelling fresh and clean again:)

Did you leave your clothes in the washer or dryer for an extended time and not remove them before they dried? Clothing mildews/molds quickly and it gives off a very bad smell. You may or may not see spots, but there is a smell. It is very hard to remove once this happens.

You said you tried this already, but you may want to try it again in the following order:

Soak everything you wore (one bucket for each piece of clothing) (all undergarments can go together in 1 bucket since they are small).

In the bucket put a cup of vinegar and a cup of baking soda and warm water (hot if the items won't shrink). The vinegar and baking soda will foam up. When it stops foaming add the water just enough to cover the clothing item.

Let it soak for a few hours then wash on cold, remove promptly from the washer and hang everything to dry outside. This is the key--the soak and outside drying.

To be safe you may want to wipe out the washer first with whatever your washer allows you to clean it with (inside), like I wipe mine out with a white rag soaked in vinegar periodically.

Before you use the dryer do the same. HOWEVER....Do not dry the clothes again in the dryer until the smell is gone. The sun drying and fresh air will help get the smell out.

Best wishes to you that this works for you!

Sounds like the washer is causing the odor, like wet towels that are forgotten to go in the dryer. I leave the lid up so the washer doesn't get that moldy smell, it's so hard to get rid of.

if the weather permits or you have heating, you should just do without the dryer for a while, and see if that makes any difference

if you are able to launder the clothes and then dry them without the dryer and you lose the smell, then you need a new dryer

it is possible that the dryer is just not that powerful and not drying the clothes correctly and the smell is a musty one. When clothes don't dry properly they get a smell.
