We are devastated beyond belief at the sudden death of our 5 year old Shepherd wolf mix, Missy. She was fine in the morning, came to me for her usual pre breakfast pets, ate her breakfast, and went out the doggy door to play with our other dog. I got ready for work and went to get them inside and when she didn't come I found her lying on her side with her tongue hanging out. It must have happened right after she went out because she was already stiff. She didn't appear to have any wounds or injuries, but when I lifted her head I did notice a small amount of blood coming from her mouth. Does anyone know what could have happened? She had never been sick in her life.

She could have been poisoned, or had an undiagnosed illness or physical condition. The only way to know is to have an autopsy done. So sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your lost,You need the Vet on this one!You will always wonder and there is your other dog to worry about,to make sure there is no connection in the illness.!
Had a 1/2 wolf years back. When she was just about 18 months old, she suddenly had a seizure. Took her in house fearing a rattlesnake bite but found nothing. She recovered with seemingly no ill effects. This was summer in south central Ok. She had flea and tick protection but still I would find a few ticks especially around her neck and ears.
You have my deepest condolences on your loss. So sad. May her memory always be a blessing.
It could be so many things and sadly you will make yourself crazy if you try to figure it out. Like people, pups sometimes pass suddenly and unexpectedly. It is so heartbreaking.
Being that she was outside, there is always the possibility that she was stung by a bee or hornet or wasp and was highly allergic. This reaction can kill in seconds and is scary and sad because sometimes there is no history of the reaction (just like people).
Beating yourself up about it is not going to help so if you have trouble managing your grief, please seek help. Our local animal shelter has a group for pet parents who have lost a furry baby, maybe yours does too.
Sending prayers to you and your family.
This is so sad when a dog dies suddenly and it is so unexpected. It is so hard to say the real reason the dog has died. There could have been a physical heart condition, ticks can get in a dog's ear and this can cause it, a snake could have bitten the dog, or the dog just had a seizure and stopped moving.
