Causes of Sudden Death in Dogs?

He was 8 months old, very healthy and a happy dog. I was away for 3 days and when I returned I learned that he had not been eating well for 3 days. I searched for him all over the house and tried to feed him, but he wouldn't eat. It was late at night and no veterinarians were available. The next morning he seemed to be fine.

I have a very hectic schedule for which I hardly stay home. I was away for another two days and this morning I called him out, but he did not come. I went nearer to him and tried feeding him, he did not eat at all. After an hour he started making weird loud sounds similar to barking and then his jaw changed its position. He started taking very deep breaths and finally stopped breathing with his eyes open and tongue sticking out. I'm so guilty I wonder what could the reason be.

You have my deepest sympathy on your loss. The loss of a pet is never, ever easy, and even more challenging when it is a young pup. You could talk to your vet to see if he/she has any feedback for you. Every dog is different so it could be anything from an infection like a parvo to a congenital condition with dozens of things in between.

Some times, like in humans, you may not know an exact cause and that just s**ks. Beating yourself up will only make you sad, so I urge you to be kind to yourself.

When you are up to it, I suggest looking for a grief support group for folks like you who lost a beloved pet. Our local animal shelter has one. Your local human funeral home many even know of such a services.

I will send up lots of wishes to help your heart heal from your loss.

Dogs, like people, often have hidden health issues. Sometimes when symptoms appear it is too late. Please dont feel guilty.

I am so sorry for your loss. What a sad and difficult thing to go through. Anytime a dog or cat stops eating is is an emergency. They need to see a Vet ASAP. Some things can wait, but not eating cannot.

My dog was just abt 3 and a half.

Since past few days she was acting a bit weird to my commands.... Kind of confused.
I thought maybe this has something to do with her dosage given for Hip Dysplasia as I had increased that a bit.

Though she was having her meals properly till few days back but was not moving swiftly.
I thought it might be some passing routine symptoms or dizziness due to fever.

From last 2 days she didn't take any meals orally.
I got very concerned when yesterday she wasn't able to move or even sleep... I rushed her to a vet nearby yesterday as I got late from office.

NEXT DAY morning took her to another vet as I wasn't convinced with the previous appointment.

He administered her some shots and told that its a case of hypothermia.

But since the medicines and shots didn't had any affect, I took her to ANOTHER VET same day evening who was able to do the correct diagnosis.

She had developed some growth in her lungs due to which only 20/30 % of it was working. Technically this situation is called COPD.

He gave medicines and said it's only 50 50 chance that she would survive.
This was around 9 pm.

Me and my wife both were shattered. We tried to feed her orally as she had not taken any meals since 2-3 days and was panting heavily.

Till abt 12am she was panting and when it subsided we took a nap. We were hoping that probably the medicines would work.

At abt 1:20 am we heard a noise and switched on the lights. She vomited and with that, we fell flat. She looked at us and then just went to a deep frozen sleep.

Just my humble advice to you all, plz never take even the slightest hint of your pet being unhealthy lightly.
Love them and share the love with others.
I am sharing my story to you all as this happened on 11th night,12 th early am and I understand that my emotions can only be felt and understood in this group.

God bless and love you Lucy.
