My fragile 17 year old Brussels Griffon was on my bed and jumped off suddenly. Her legs were no longer strong enough to land on her feet and she immediately stretched out her body and made some noises. I picked her up and she passed in my arms.
I am crushed. Did the trauma cause her to have a heart attack? She had severe heart disease. She wanted on the bed so I gave in and placed her on bed and in seconds she just darted off the bed onto the hardwood floor. She loved the bed. I blame myself. Any feedback would be so appreciated.

Don't blame yourself, as 17 years old is an elderly dog. The cause could have been heart failure. Your vet would be a better source of information.
Oh my. You have my most heartfelt and deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved fur baby. My wish for you is that you always find comfort in your happy memories!
That your baby lived to 17 is awesome!
Sounds like you did everything right including giving her her last wish to be on the bed.
You did nothing wrong and it sounds like she knew how much you loved her that she honored you by going to heaven while in your arms. To me that is how I wish every pup in the world would transition in the loving arms of her/his person.
As for the cause, only G-d knows, well, I guess the vet may have some insights, but G-d makes the final decisions. While it is easy for me to say don't fret about the cause...I know how hard it is after losing my girlie. What I learned from the experience is that wondering only diminishes her memory so every day I celebrate her life by with happy thoughts of our time together.
Be easy on yourself. There are support groups if you need help with grief counseling. Our local animal shelter has an amazing program, as does a local human funeral home who work with people grieving humans or fur kids. Hopefully you have such a program in your area.
G-d bless you and your lovely pup's soul. You know have a furry angel to watch over you until you meet again!
Thank yo so much. Your words mean so much and help me tremendously. Maybe we can connect. Verraneajenn@gmail.com I live in CT
I am sorry to hear about your dog passing. I don't think it's anything you could done or did, as she is 17 years old and battling heart disease.
To me, I think it is a sign she wanted to make some noise so you can pick her up one last time and she was comfortable in your arms.
Like autopsies for humans there is necropsies for dogs, but it can be expensive if you want to really find out the cause.
