We have an upcoming Chamber banquet and would like to decorate the tables for the banquet. We need some input on how to decorate a table for someone who's business is automotive body shop and detail. We would like his table to have an automotive theme. He is the outgoing president. Any suggestions? Thanks
Why not have an array of of Hot Wheels autos as the centerpiece. Or go to local toy store and get the package of little plastic cars. Try Radio Shack, get a remote control car, of the model of the one president drives. Or get a license tag cake made with his name in the center. You might get one of those old toy cars that you have push back and forth with your feet when you sit in it. Give him a Revell model kit of the first car that he bought with his own money. Depending on how far you want to go, you could take your tablecloths and an old tire and roll the tire in paint and "drive" it over the table cloths in varying angles to make tire tracks on the tablecloths. You could also do the same with black paint on the napkins and make it look like grease rags. Or buy a pack of clean grease rags and use the black paint on someones hands to make it look like oil. And use for napkins. Hang to dry. Acrylic paint is good and safe to use for something like this.
You could get various known car parts (oil filter, air filter, a can/bottle of oil, etc.) as center pieces and tie a small bouquet of balloons to each one. Make name cards from cardstock cut into the shape of a license plate and write each persons name like it would appear on a plate. Lay on each plate.
Take mechanic type shirts and hang on the back of each chair. You could also use this as your name cards and using the sticker-type name labels you can put each persons name on their "work shirt". Take clean hub caps and use as dinner plates or serving bowls for the salad, chips, etc. Too bad you couldn't make some silverware from wrenches. Can you tell my husband is a mechanic? (05/05/2004)
