Avoid using the cheap shampoos, instead go for the mid-priced ones; they are less harsh and will not create scalp problems. Years ago, I had a problem with dandruff. My hair stylist recommended a more expensive shampoo, saying that cheaper ones tend to create what looks like dandruff. That was the end of my dandruff.

Any of the hairdressers that I have ever went to in more than 40 years have said there is absolutely no difference between the higher priced ones and the lower priced ones. Most of them have recommended Suave. However some have recommended Tresemme, and one that I went to actually used one called Appearance in her salon.
It has been years since I have seen Appearance in stores. Granted the beauticians that I went to were self employed they weren't working in the hoity-toity salons that sell all that expensive stuff. I wouldn't mind finding some Appearance occasionally because I really liked the smell of that.
I use shampoo that is sulfer free other than that, like cosmetics, I've heard the cheaper brand if no better than the expensive. I've used some of the expensive cosmetics then money became tight and I switched to less expensive products and I can't tell a bit of difference in my skin.
