Chewable Sulfur Tablets to Ward off Mosquitoes

Growing up with grandparents from "back in the day" was an advantage to me. As a kid in the 60's and 70's, we children were sent outside to play, whether or not we wanted to. I did not mind, nor did the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes loved me. I was usually bathed in and caked in calamine lotion each night after my bath and stood in front of a fan to dry and try not scratch the bites that covered my little body.

Finally one year, I was given a tasty orange chewable tablet daily in the warmer months here in Louisiana. I loved it. Mosquitoes never bothered me again, those many warm seasons ago. My pharmacists of today have never heard of this sulfur chewable, nor did they ever admit knowing the positive effects of sulfur against mosquitoes. Unfortunately, this isn't really a tip. It's more of a request.

Pharmaceutical companies, please put this sulfur tablet back on the shelf. I'm sure it's quicker and safer than eating a match head or making my own tea. Even at age 50, I'm too eager to go outside to my garden. My grandmother knew what to do for me back then. There are some truths to "old wives tells".

I just had to search for the tablets. Sulfur does good things. Searched for "sulfur for people" then clicked on images, after several clicks I go to "how to eat sulfur for mosquito' s" and the following recipe on ehow.com

Instructions
1) Thoroughly mix together 2 tsp. sulfur, 1 tsp. of Cream of Tartar and 1 pint of honey in a pint jar. Sulfur can be found over the counter in most pharmacies.
2) Take 1 tsp. of this recipe every day. It will take about two weeks for the repellent to become effective.
3) Continue consuming this recipe throughout the mosquito season. Be certain to thoroughly mix this recipe before consuming it.
note: MSM is usually prominent on the labels

I have called all the drug stores in my area, not one of them sells sulfur. Does anyone know where sulfur can be bought?

I purchase sulfur crystals from Southern Botanicals out of Clearwater, Florida. Throw back a handful each morning and the mosquitos wont touch me! I have been plagued by mosquitos all of my life so this is amazing for me. Plus, sulfur crystals are very healing to your body at a cellular level.

I am trying to find sulfur tablets for my grandkids since they wont throw back a handful of crystals and swallow them. If anyone knows where to buy the chewable tablets, please let me know.

My husband used to laugh at me when I told him my mother gave me chewable sulfur tablets everyday when I was a kid. I hated them but looking back, I never got bitten by literally anything. I grew up in Louisiana as well. Now we live in Florida and are literally eaten alive by no seeums and this conversation came up! Now he is thinking there may have been something to it! Hopefully we will find something that works soon - otherwise we will be covered head to toe in coconut oil.

We used to get them also, chewable kind- I remember we used to get them at the Foleys downtown Houston store. I have looked for them for my kids and no place carries them.

I live around Houston . I was born in 1952 and I as a child chewed the sulphur tablets and was outside all day. I looked in the stores but didn't find any. We are being eaten alive this year.

My son said to get sulphur pellets and spread in the yard. It comes in 50# bags at TSC, Steinhausers or maybe other feed stores. We applied to yard this morning. WISH us luck....

I had a staphylococcal infection when I was 18, probably from swimming in stock tanks and wading in creeks. It caused huge boils on the skin the size of a softball around. My mom was a nurse and tried to pop it with a needle. Doctors gave me antibiotic shots costing $110 each week.

My dad took me to an old country doctor he new in Austin. He lanced it and told my dad to go to an old drug store and get sulfur and cream of tartar tablets. I started taking them for about a month and it destroyed the staphylococcus in my blood stream.

I was a Boy Scout in the 1950's. Before our annual trip to scout camp at Kia Kima in Hardy, Arkansas, we bought what I think was called Sulfa Tabs actually at the Memphis local scout offices. After a month of one daily tabs (I think I remember you were supposed to let it dissolve in your mouth, not chew), no mosquitos bites or ticks whatsoever.

The tabs were not good tasting at all, kind of sickening sweet, but worth it. If they did not determine later it somehow has terrible side effects (I never had any I know of and am 81 years now) I would sure like to see it come back on the market. Please share any progress anyone is having toward this goal!
