My ex-husband owes over $16,000 in back child support. He lives in GA and currently receives SSDI. Does anyone know what percentage they can take for child support? This is an interstate case and it will take at least 6-9 months before I receive any monies. Also, why can't SSI checks be garnished for child support?
Don't give up, talk with a good lawyer, send emails to a Senator & Governor of your state, no so called man should cheat his children out of money, good luck. (03/16/2009)
If you or your children have been/had received any state assistance, this is an automatic. They go after the father's money to help with it. In the case of disability, your children residing in the USA will also get till age 18, as long as the father gets. Check with your local social services first if you get any assistance, then find the Social Security Office LOCALLY, not the toll free #, which can take weeks to get an answer or go online to the website, ending in GOV.
