I live in California and my ex is on SSI and I collect a benefit for my child. Does it come off of the child support due or does he also owe me child support and the SSI payment? His child support payment is $60, but I receive 230.00 a month in benefits. Should I get both or should one be deducted from the other. I am not talking morally. I am asking if anyone knows what really happens either legally or you have had or know someone who has that outcome experience.

Talk to you local child support office, that is what they are there for. If they don't know anything then talk to your local Social Security Office. Is the amount of child support court ordered? If it isn''t, you should get it court ordered and if need be garnished from the SSI.
