Christmas Help

Hello. My name is Markita. I live in South Central KY. I am a single mother of a 5 year old little girl. I am struggling financially due to being off work because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. I am still trying to get my unemployment but I have not been successful on reaching them. I am wondering if there are any resources out there that might be able to help me with getting her things for Christmas. I am not used to any programs due to making too much for her to qualify for any of these programs. Thank you in advance for anyone that responds.

I'm sorry you are having these problems and it is sometimes difficult for small children to understand why this Christmas should be any different than in the past.
You are starting at a good time when asking for help as many people wait until everything is spoken for.
You do not say what county in South Central, KY but if a help link has the wrong county you can always look for the same assistance in your county.
Generally you can Google something like: family needs help with Christmas toys/clothes/food & your zip code. There should be several agencies appear and you'll have to check each one out as they will not all be offering the same things.

If you also need food assistance (even if you're getting food stamps) many sites will have dinners available for Thanksgiving and Christmas (especially the church charities).
Remember; you are fortunate that you have not had to ask for help before but this is your time of need so ask!
Try any/all of these links as some may be in your county.

Here is a page with some advice for finding help in Kentucky. Some of the answers were posted years ago so it is possible that some are no longer in operation.

I would also contact your local city, county and state websites to see if they have any advice too. Do it very soon as the funds often run out well before Christmas.

Here is one more article that might have some good advice too.

Good luck!

A lot of community centers, fire stations, police departments, churches, Salvation Army, and places like this offer Christmas help to needy families. I would start off searching for some of these in your local town and put in your application early for Christmas help. it is good you are starting off now because the lists for these organizations do fill up rather quickly and I am not sure what will happen this year at all.

I hope you can find the help you need and can get the answers soon so you can apply for the programs they have to offer.

Hopefully some of these will help also. Take a few days and just start calling and asking.

Take advantage of everything possible--from help with electric/gas/water bills, rent assistance, food programs, etc. and all of that will help have your holidays be financially a little less of a drain.

You also can contact social services in your city. Another avenue would be Churches they give often around the holidays. Be sure to check soon to get ahead. These services you have to sign up for or get on a list first come first serve. And lastly put in your zip code and ask your pc for any holiday help and Christmas for kids, this should give you a head start. It will work out, take care!
