Steps:

  1. Decide on how many pairs of cards you want in the game. Depending on your child's age, you could start at 4 pairs and work up to 20 or more. For this example, I am going to create enough for 9 pairs with 18 cards. Cut the 18 index cards in half. Select the 1 inch+ stickers you want to use. Make sure that each one has an exact match.

  3. Begin placing one sticker on each card. Do this for all 18 cards.

  5. Now it is time to play the game. Flip all cards over face down and take turns finding matches.

  7. Here are two more examples of how you could make this game. In both of these, children match the sticker pattern.
  8. Christmas Sticker Memory Game - variation of game where children match the sticker patterns on the cards

  9. And this last example is perfect for children who are just learning Touch Point math. Write a single digit on each card. On one set of numbers (1-6 in my example) substitute the normal touch points for stickers. Then on the other half of the set, place the stickers to the side or below the numbers. Children can match touch point numbers with regular numbers and corresponding stickers. And just like in touch point math, children can learn that some dots/stickers have to be counted twice. In this case, I circled those stickers, like in the number six.

  11. If you want some color added to the cards, glue the blank side to a different colored or patterned paper and cut them back out. I've found that kids enjoy playing a game that has color, instead of looking a solid white cards. But white on the front is good because you want the stickers and numbers to stand out.
If you used flat stickers, you can laminate the memory cards for durability and cut them back out. If you used foam stickers, I would suggest skipping this step.
