How and when did you get your pet?
Chubs was a rescue dog. My roommates and I, at the time, were considering getting a puppy. While still in the process of reviewing our schedules and lifestyles to guarantee we could give a puppy a great life in our home together, one of our neighbors happened to rescue a fat little Chihuahua Min-Pin mix from a very unfortunate situation. She knocked on our door while I and one of my roommates were at work, and dropped this guy on our doorstep. Though it was a rather unorthodox way of acquiring a pet, it was meant to be. Poor little Chubs was a chunky ball of anger and fear when he first entered my life. That first night I placed a blanket on the couch and carefully coaxed him onto it, being growled at and dodging being bit the entire time. I curled up on the opposite side of the couch that night and slept with him, yet away from him, trying to let him know he was safe, that I was here for him, but that I also respected his space. Well, from the next morning on, Chubs was my dog, through and through, and I don't think I've ever known a more loyal critter. We've had many roadblocks and ups and downs and twists and turns along the way, and after over 3 years he still has a long way to go, but I am so proud of and amazed by the growth he has shown. He may still have his angry moments, but he's becoming a fun-loving dog, and he is beyond amazing with me.
Here, he is seen with his new best friend, Mochi. I moved to a new apartment, and my newest roommate has this little fluff ball. She is a sweet, loving, goofy little girl who has really brought out the personality in Chubs. Their friendship is, by far, one of the cutest things on this planet.
What does your pet like to do for fun?
Chubs and Mochi like going on walks together, rolling around in the grass, chasing each other around the apartment, and playing dress up together. They love days at the park, and are always sure to protect each other from the menacing cat, Goose, who is always looking to interrupt their innocent playtime.
Chubs also loves getting lots and lots of mommy snuggles while Mochi sleeps or is being pampered at the groomers. And treats! I have the little guy on a diet to get him at a healthier weight, but man does he go nuts for a good treat.
Do you have anything else to share about your pet?
Being a rescue pet, people sometimes commend me for offering my life to this little guy, but the exact opposite is true. Chubs saved me. He plopped into my life at a time where I had lost my way. Seeing him, small, scared, and vulnerable... It was like looking at what I was feeling on the inside. Taking care of him, nurturing him back to health, both mentally and physically, taught me to also heal myself. I love this little guy more than anything. He is my hero.
