Diamond Post Medal for All Time! 1,246 Posts I came up with this recipe when I saw a photo of a gorgeous pie in a magazine. I had no idea what it was made of, but the vision gave me inspiration to come up with something. To make things simple, the pastry part of this is made of refrigerated cinnamon roll dough. The apples and walnuts give it a wonderful texture. I skipped the prepackaged icing that came with the cinnamon rolls and made my own cream cheese version. Give it a try fresh out the oven with a cup of coffee!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Yield: 8 servings
Ingredients:
The pastry part is made of refrigerated cinnamon roll dough. The apples and walnuts give it a wonderful texture. I skipped the prepackaged icing that came with the cinnamon rolls and made my own cream cheese version.
- 2 crisp apples
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 can (12.4oz) refrigerated cinnamon rolls
- 1 pkg (8oz) cream cheese
- 2 Tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup walnuts
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Slice and core the apples, then sprinkle with lemon juice.
- Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat and cook apples, stirring frequently, about 7 minutes, until lightly browned. Set aside and allow to cool.
- In a large microwavable bowl, heat cream cheese and powdered sugar uncovered on high for 1 minute, stirring once halfway.
- Chop your walnuts. I went for both finely chopped and coarsely chopped.
- Unroll and rip up the cinnamon roll rounds.
- Grease a pie plate (I used 8") and begin pressing some cinnamon roll pieces around the edges.
- Swipe some of the cream cheese mixture on the dough.
- Sprinkle cream cheese mixture with some chopped walnuts.
- Stand slices of apples up, skin side up, against the cream cheese and walnuts.
- Continue that pattern over and over until you get to the center. Fill center with cream cheese mixture and walnuts.
- Bake for about 25 minutes, until golden around edges and dough is baked through. Let stand 10 minutes.
- Slice and serve. If you like things on the sweeter side, use up that packet of icing that came with the rolls. I saved mine for another purpose.

May I come over and spend an evening with you? I wont require any attention and promise to be the perfect guest. I'll sit quietly on the sofa for a couple of hours and just inhale all those marvelous aromas.

You know you always have a standing invite with us in Cali! Come on by. You don't even have to be quiet. :) I might sew a costume on you, though.
