Clean Walls with Vinegar and Ammonia

Clean Walls with Vinegar and AmmoniaI'm currently cleaning an estate, and this is proof that nicotine can be washed off of the walls with vinegar, and ammonia. I didn't even use the baking soda with the concoction! Also, if you use a Scotch-Brite Dobie, it works much better than just using a rag! Happy cleaning!

Ammonia is unbeatable for removing cigarette tar from walls. Since the vinegar would dilute the ammonia, I would think ammonia alone, would be best.

It is short lived however in badly stained homes, it literally continues to seep out from the wall for decades and painting only covers for a few years on average on badly stained homes.. there is no remedy but temporary; removing the drywall of installing 1/4" drywall over the existing is it except for paneling etc.

If you mixed the ammonia with the vinegar, you will have weakened the ammonia. If you used one and then the other on the wall, that would be very effective, as vinegar is an acid and ammonia is a base. (Baking soda is a mild base, and likely wouldn't be any help when you are using ammonia already.) If you did mix them together, I suggest you just use the ammonia by itself and see if you don't get even better results.

What are the portions 1/2 to 1/2 and will it work on wood paneling?

Just don't ever mix vinegar and bleach! It gives of strong fumes that burn your eyes, throat, and sinuses! I found out the hard way.
