My parents have a wooden backyard porch that has grown some black stuff on the ceiling of it. It's not flat; it is tough and prickly and hard to scrape off. Is this mold also? It's outdoors so I wondered if it can still be mold.

Mold can grow wherever it is humid. Wash with a diluted bleach solution and a brush
Yes, it is a type of mold. Put bleach solution in a garden sprayer (the kind you would use for weed killer) and spray on the surface, then rinse off with pressure washer on a medium/low setting. (NEVER run bleach through your pressure washer, it could cause damage and will definitely void your warranty) I would advise doing a section at a time, since it is on the ceiling, this will minimize the drips of bleach solution you have to deal with.
Do they get bats? When I did volunteer work at a conservation area, bat poo looks like this.
Wow not sure on bats, they live in Central orange county, CA. That would be bizarre.
