Cleaning Rust-like Spots on a Bedspread?

I have an expensive Matelesse bedspread that is covered with rust like spots. Can a dry cleaner remove them? The suggestions to remove on clothing won't work as it is a huge surface. Thanks.

Try rubbing fresh lemon juice on the spots then letting it sit out in the sunshine to dry.

I would take an expensive spread to a dry cleaner. I would try to clean a cheaper item myself.

Most dry cleaners will say they will try their best but won't guarantee. You can try natural remedies at home from YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ_qO7aDQyM

This is a very large item that would be very difficult to work on at home so it seems the best suggestion is to seek out a reliable dry cleaners. You say "rust like" spots so it may just be dark yellow/orange spots from being in some type of storage?

  • You might be able to work on your spread outside if you had a wide x long smooth table that would hold your spread off the ground/concrete.
  • If that is available then I would try a solution of regular detergent / water. Wet it down and leave it set for 30 or more minutes; pour rinse water and rub the spots with a white wash cloth. Leave in sun until partial dry; check spots and if necessary, wet again with clear water and repeat sun exposure. If this does not remove it then you will need to take it to an expert.
  • If an outside area is not available then it looks like your only choice is a dry cleaners.
  • I would load the spread in your car and visit 2 or 3 dry cleaners and ask them if their "stain specialist" can take a look at your spread and give you an opinion of removing spots and also cost of this service.

  • Pick out the one that sounds like they know what they are doing and then hope for the best.
  • I believe it is probably spots from storage (maybe it was put away slightly used/dirty or has gotten damp at one time) and cleaning will remove most or all of the stains.

No dry cleaners will offer a guarantee to remove the stains so visit 2 or 3 and pick the one you like the best.
