My mom's tried and true recipe.
Place several brown paper grocery bags on the ironing board. Next heat iron, run iron over a block of plain wax/paraffin then iron it off on paper bag and your iron is clean.
You could try wax paper if you do not have
a block of clear wax.
This always works, just be careful. I use this
