Cleaning a Drain on a Septic System?

Our kitchen drain is slow. What can be used if you have a septic tank?

Something that works great for me is to

- boil a teakettle full of water
- get a cup of baking soda
- a cup of vinegar

go to the drain, empty the whole baking soda, then the vinegar on top of it. After the fizzy reaction, pour the entire thing of boiling water on the mess.

This really helps in toilets too.

You can buy a zip-it, a mini snake, at Home Depot. I've pulled out a lot of crud from sinks this way.
