Do you have a smooth top electric stove? I do and have found cleaning it aggravating with the commercial products out there (plus they are expensive). Instead, I scrape off any raised burned on food with a single edge razor blade and then apply Cameo cleaner and use a generic "Eraser" sponge. All the darkened areas come right off without wearing you out! Much easier and less expensive method of cleaning. You can also use baking soda and an eraser when the cleanup isn't as burnt on.

I also use Barkeeper's Friend. It is about $1 at the grocery store and is very mild on the finish. (11/16/2005)

I also have a smooth top stove. Buy and use Barkeepers Friend. Its located close to comet. Works marvelously !! Wet stove top and sprinkle across the top. Let sit for few minutes and wipe off with wet rag. Use sparingly and very cheap. Works on any ceramic or stainless steel. Bar keepers use it. Cheap product. Also use on bottom of pots and pans.
