So basically I just moved into a flat and the toilet bowl is stained and disgusting. The whole bathroom is in a state. How do I get rid of the stains? Any ideas? Please all welcome.

Pour 2 cups white vinegar in the tank of your toilet and flush. Pour 1 cup vinegar into bowl and let sit 1/2 hour, then scrub with brush. If there are stains under the rim of the bowl, wet pices of toilet paper with vinegar, and line the rim completely wit the strips. Let sit 1 hour or overnight if possible. Flush them away and use the brush under the rim. Repeat all these if necessary. If you have mineral deposits from hard water around the faucets, use vinegar soaked toilet paper around the fixtures and let sit 1 hour. Overnight is better. Then scrub and rinse. Hope this is helpful.
Have you considered using a Pumie Toilet Bowl Ring Remover? My sister-in-law successfully used it in her toilet.
Chlorine bleach is the answer to a heavily stained bathroom. Pour into toilet bowl and leave overnight if possible, but no longer. If it needs another go, flush the loo and try again.
Wet kitchen paper with bleach and leave the wet paper adhering to stains that cannot be reached by water. For bad stains keep on applying fresh bleach/ vinegar after rinsing and scrubbing the residue. Leaving strong bleach on ceramic for more than 48 hours can damage it.
If the stains are limescale try vinegar instead.
The chlorine bleach will destroy germs, so a dilute solution for washing down the whole bathroom will also help.
Fine grade pumice will remove the stains.
Empty out all the water, use a sponge for the last bit. Pour in a bottle of coke. Put a small bottle filled with water or similar in to raise the level slightly above the normal water line, leave a few hours and any stains will come off easily with the abrasive side of the sponge.
Denture cleaning tablets will clean a toilet bowl. Flush it, then when the bowl fills back up with water, drop about 4 in. They are great at removing stains-that is what they are designed to do.
