I eat a lot of salad and like to buy the big bags of romaine hearts at Costco. I find that bagged salad goes bad very quickly, but preparing it this way myself allows the lettuce to last over a week.

I wash mine the same way except wrap in paper towels and put in plastic bag.It will last up to two weeks as the towels soak up the remaining water. Also can change paper towels
If that's what your lettuce looks like after cutting it with a sharp knife, you need a new knife.
That's a good one!!! Really, it looks like the base was twisted off, not cut off. Still, a very good way to store romaine leaves. I eat green salad every day, and have found this method does keep the romaine fresh longer. It works better for me than wrapping the leaves in paper towels. But the best way I've found is, if you have the height in your fridge, to put a folded up paper towel in the bottom of a glass or plastic semi-tall container with just a little water in the bottom, and stand your intact romaine head in it.
