Photo Description This plant was developed by George Jackman at St. Johns, Woking, Surrey, England and introduced in 1875. So, not only did my research show me there's a place in England with a very Oriental sounding name, this clematis was hybridized well over a hundred years ago. My picture, taken with an older camera in 2015, does nothing to reflect the real beauty of this fully double flower.
Funny how we assume things with little or no good reason. Such is the case with this clematis. Given it's Oriental sounding name, I assumed the vine originated in China or was named for a real or fictitious lady from China. Not so.
