Silver Post Medal for All Time! 408 Posts Here is a cute back-to-school activity for the art class. Turn twine doodles into colorful monsters! A fun way to explore creativity and to play around with colors. It can also be used at home, or as a playful activity to entertain a small group of friends.
Total Time: 20 minutes
Yield: one doodle monster
Supplies:
- A4 sheet of ordinary white printer paper
- 1mm wide cotton twine
- 25mm wiggle eye
- quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
- set of 24-color watercolor paint set
- Kenton brown acrylic paint
- paintbrush
- standard scissors
- pencil
- ruler
- sponge - use one that was in a medicine bottle
- plastic cup with water
Steps:
- Measure and draw a pencil frame 1.2" from the edge of the paper.
- Create a doodle from the twine - cut pieces of twine and glue them onto the paper. Make sure that there are no open ends. Tip: For younger children, let them use a black bullet-point marker to draw a doodle.
- Use the watercolor set to paint each section of the doodle - do not use any color twice. Tip: If you do not have a 24-color set of watercolor paints, you can also use food colorings, watercolor pencils, or acrylic paints.
- Use the sponge and the brown paint to stamp a frame around the design.
- Complete the monster by gluing the wiggle eye in place. Tip: It is a monster, so why not add three or four or five wiggle eyes? ;-)
