Controlling Poofy Curly Hair?

I always complain about my hair because it gets poofy, and I can tell that my friends are tired of me asking if my hair is OK. They tell me to straighten it, but I don't want to get keratina (something that keeps you hair straightened for a long time) and I don't want to straighten it because, honestly I'm lazy and it ruins your hair, plus curls are cool :) Does anyone know how to make your curls stay down, so my hair doesn't get poofy? Please don't tell me to blow dry it, cause it's gonna take too long. Please help :)

Hi! I have curly poofy hair too! It was the worst as a teenager. Fortunately you are in 2013 instead of 1980 and there are a bunch more hair products available to you. There are even curly shampoos and conditioners. No need to spend a fortune, just buy a loreal, pantene whatever. I recommend hair gel. Put it on when your hair is still wet. I can't blow dry my hair that makes it really poofy.

Sometimes I put an elastic to kind of keep the top straight. You know a loose pony tail. I also recommend allure website & magazine, that has saved me a ton of money on products! Best wishes for your beautiful hair!

Experiment with different shampoos and conditioners. Some of them can help with this. I don't have this problem, but my best friend and 2 of her kids do.

Once they find a brand of shampoo or conditioner that they like, they will pay anything it takes to keep it around.

I remember seeing a homemade hair get recipe either on this website or on OneGoodThing by Jillee, using a cornstarch base. Also, how about just running olive oil, coconut oil, or a leave-in conditioner through your hair? Also, would henna or some other natural coloring condition your hair without using a straightener? The olive oil or coconut oil would be the fastest daily solution if it works.

Another method might be to wet your hair, then pull into a tight ponytail so the hair dries straighter. Another method that might work is to get a haircut that uses a thinning comb; I'm not sure about this but it seems like it would reduce some of the volume, and these combs are available for the home haircut, too. I know you love your curls, but maybe you just feel your face is overwhelmed by them. I hope some of the Thriftyfun tips work for your beautiful curls.

Try putting in Moroccan Argon oil while your hair is still somewhat wet. I have very thick coarse hair and I do blow dry it, however, if you put in a little mousse and scrunch while using a diffuser attachment, I think that would work.

The Argon oil makes my dull hair very shiny. Nothing ever worked like this for me. Good luck.

I too have the same problem. I use mousse. It really control the frizz and poofiness and leaves me really great curls.
