I would like to make the American flag throw for my granddaughter, but I am from the UK and we only deal in balls of yarn not skeins so could you let me know how many balls I would need in a chunky yarn. We do 50 gram and 100 gram.
I have tried to convert, but have not been successful. I would hate to run out of wool.
Many thanks.

100 grams of yarn is equal to 250 yards.
There are approximately 236 yards in 1 skein of yarn.
You'll need to buy the 100 gram balls to do the project if you are working with a skein of yarn. Otherwise, it will be 2 50 gram balls of yarn for each skein of yarn you'll need to buy.
I looked at your 'recipe' and first of all
50 grams equals 1 3/4 ounce. (from here peggyosterkamp.com/
16 oz. dark red worsted yarn = 457.14 grams

I would not use wool. It can't be washed and if someone didn't realize it was wool and washed it, it will fuzz and shrink. Hope you find the sizes you need and if you can't, you can always order skeins on Amazon.com
