When we got our first microwave, we were without a stove so I learned to cook in the microwave. For any type of pasta or rice:
Since microwaves vary in their cooking, check 5 minutes before time. You can use stock, tomatoes in juice, et cetera for liquid.
When cooking rice, cover and let set for 5-7 minutes and it will soak up the liquid and will be nice and fluffy.

I am SO trying this - in the next five minutes, actually!
I am beyond tired of boiled over starchy mess in the microwave when I use the 'traditional' method of high power uncovered for ten minutes then covered on low for another 20, and the resulting rice only a sushi chef would want.
I actually spent hours on Amazon looking at rice cookers and specialty microwave rice bowls - I would have bought one but all the reviews said the starchy water boils over and the rice comes out sticky.
On my way to the kitchen now to try this for rice to go with lunch!
