Copper wire is an excellent material for creativity. I want to show you how easy it is to make a copper wire unicorn without spending almost any money. I used wire from an old transformer. Let's transform an old transformer!
Total Time: 2 Hours + time to dry the stain, varnish
Supplies:
- copper wire from old transformer: 0.5 mm, 1 mm, 1.5 mm
- pliers
- wire cutters
- paper
- pencil
- rubber
- rectangular piece of wood for base
- triangle
- drill
- wood stain
- saw
- chisel
- hammer
- varnish for copper
Steps:
- Draw a unicorn.
- Using the pliers bend the thick copper wire along the contours of the sketch as shown in the photo.
- Bend another piece of thick wire to form the first part of the horn as seen in the photo.
- Using another piece of thick wire form the second side of the body as illustrated in the photo.
- Form second part of the horn.
- Using the pliers wind medium thickness wire to fix parts on the body. See photo. Do 4 turns of wire.
- Join the two parts of the horn and wind around it twisted medium thickness wire.
- Fold a long piece of thick copper wire in half and fix it around the horn.
- Then cross two parts of this wire and fix them with medium thickness wire as in the photo (winding). Leave the ends of this wire long, since with them the sculpture will be fixed on the wood base.
- Fold another long piece of thick copper wire in half and fix it under the head with medium thickness wire (winding).
- Cross two parts of the wire and fix them, shaping the belly, with medium thickness wire as in the photo (winding). The ends of this wire will form a tail of the unicorn.
- Wind medium thickness wire to form hooves and eyes.
- Using thin wire make the tail and mane, fix them in place.
- Trim the mane and tail.
- Drill two holes for the wires in the wooden base.
- On the back, using the chisel cut a recess connecting the two holes.
- Polish and cover with stain. Let it dry.
- Insert the ends of the wire into the holes of the base and fix them (twist). Varnish it.
- Your copper wire unicorn is ready.
