I have a hard time reading the size of crochet hook I have! To solve this, I took a flag post-it note and marked the size and covered it with tape to make it sturdy and then wrapped it around the hook. Also works great with knitting needles.
As for storage, I have a large beach tote, it holds the current project. I use a thin binder to keep the pattern in. I also keep my crochet hooks, needle, scissors, stitch holders/markers, and gauge in a cosmetic bag with zipper. That way I have all my supplies on hand where I take my project. As for the other yarn, I use an over the door shoe organizer.
I have only started crocheting and have already got two afghans under my belt.
As for the many craft items I need for one project this works well for cross-stitching, sewing, and jewelry making. I use a different color tote for each craft. So when it is time for traveling, doctor's appointment, or visiting a friend who does crafts, I grab a tote and take it with me.
