Old text books are good to use in making any number of hand crafts: paper beads, envelopes, cutouts for use in scrapbooking, etc.

I'm not much into crafts. But I just had to write this. I saw it on a movie the other night. A guy had taken on old text book and had taken a razor knife & had cut down thru the pages, after opening the book from the front. He'd cut all thru the pages and deep enough that he was able to put his pistol inside it for safe keeping on his bookshelf. Only he and his loved ones knew which book it was, in case of an intruder, etc. Interesting, as I would have never thought of that! The same could be done with other things you might want to keep hidden...(jewels, chocolate hidden from your kids, money, etc.) Just remember where you're stashing it!
I really like the idea of taking a stack of books and drilling a hole through each one, several off centered and running a tube with lamp wiring through it and designing a lamp shade from pages of another book. A true reader and lover of books would appreciate this as a gift. As large as a floor lamp, or a table lamp.
hi i saw them make a purse out of one on tv first you remove the pages than you take your material in a v shape and hot glue to the sides on the inside now your book should stand up next you pick something cool for straps;wire with beads wooden or plastic ect or old belt or strap. and cut to size they used small ones for evening purse .
