My 42" Craftsman mower has a 3-5 second delay when the key is turned to the start position before it slowly starts to turn and then runs fine. I had the battery checked and fully charged. It exceeds specs. There has been no change in the delay. The delay is less if the mower has been operating. Any ideas why there is a delay? Is there a capacitor in the starting system that could be charging slowly and then kicks on the starter? I have read many starting answers, but none address this delay.

Check the solenoid first. If that is good, check the valves.
