I have a Craftsman LT2000 mower. Why is oil shooting into my carburetor?

More than likely you have a crack in your manifold that is causing this to happen. This could be a gasket problem or a problem with one of the hoses on your lawnmower. You need to check the engine of the mower and find out where the oil is coming from. Check all your hoses and make sure they are not broken. If you can not find any damaged hoses then check the gasket on the engine block and see if you can find oil leaking from this area. If so you will need to take it apart and replace the engine gaskets on the mower.
Sound like you need gasket replacement along with hoses. Also sometimes a carburetor may need to be replaced.
This could be a head gasket problem but sometimes just overfilling the oil will cause problems like this.
Since this is a Craftsman I would suggest you contact your Sears Service Center and ask them about this problem as they are familiar with most problems and will know the right questions to ask to be able to tell you what parts you need or what needs to be done.

Just be sure to do a complete clean up job after you find and fix the problem as oil left on anything can cause new problems (not just smoke).
You may need new filters (gas and air), spark plug, hoses, etc and you may need to clean inside where the plug etc was seated (to remove any oil in the space).
Some of these things can be cleaned but some cannot.
