I have a Craftsman DYT4000 riding mower. I just replaced the deck and drive belts on my mower. I went to test the mower. I started the mower and pressed the brake pedal and put it in reverse. The mower shifter locked in reverse at this point with the brake pedal pressed I could not shift out of reverse. I let off the brake pedal and started moving in reverse. While moving I was able to shift to neutral or any other gear. At this point if I pressed the brake pedal in I was not able to shift out of that gear, except if I was in neutral to begin with. Any suggestions on a fix would be great.

Have you tried some YouTube videos to watch and see what others do in this case?
It sounds like you are very handy so a YouTube video may just point you to the challenge...it is really difficult to tell from the description what may be going on...it could be anything from something being too loose or too tight to something getting ELSE in the process getting tweaked when you did the repairs.
Post back what you learn!! I hope it is an easy fix for you!
Yes I have tried YouTube and had no luck finding anything for this issue.
Drat! I had hoped YouTube would be the answer for you.
Post back when you figure it out so we can all learn! Thanks!!
From reading this, it seems that you need a rod adjustment www.doityourself.com/
I adjusted the rod today it seems to help a little bit but the more I adjust the less brakes I have...of course I adjusted the brakes to tighten them. But this seems to work the best for now thanks for the help!!
Gear shaft needs work , sticking, hard to shift!
Hard or not possible to swap gears only while running and the brake pedal is pressed. I just did a rod adjustment today and it seems to help out but is definitely still hard to shift if you have the brake pressed all the way in.
