I have a Craftman lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine. It starts and runs fine, but when you put the deck on, it dies. Any suggestions on what might be the cause?

There is something called the operator presence switch under the seat. It will stop the motor if it senses there is not weight on the seat. It may be disconnected or may need replacing.
Most of the time this type of problem has a simple fix but you need someone to walk you through it. Try contacting your local Sears service center (Google Sears service center with your zip code) and give them a call.
here is a link that has some suggestions.
here is a link that has a lot of troubleshooting videos for Craftsman mowers. You can also find a manual or ask your question on this site.
Words that involve 'deck' says:
- Blades could be bent? Is there any noise with the deck though? Or any scratches? Could need a replacement blade
- Might need some cleaning if "excess of grass, mud, mulch and/or twigs built up within"
