This is a delicious way to start a morning, using nutritional and tasty ingredients. Makes a good mid-day "pick-me-up", too. Takes a little prep, the night before but well worth the effort!
Total Time: 5 minutes, total
Yield: 1 shake
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen almond cube (10 almonds - see directions)
- 1/4 cold cooked oatmeal
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 2/3 cup almond milk
- 4-6 ice cubes (depending on size)
- Sweetener to taste (I use Stevia)
- Optional
- 1 tsp ground flax seed
- 1/2 sq in protein powder
- Almond, vanilla flavoring
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
- Other frozen fruit, to taste.
Steps:
- Prepare the night before: Place ten almonds (for each smoothie) in one section of an ice-cube tray. Fill section with water, and place in freezer. The almonds need to be soaked for this shake.
If you do not have cooked oatmeal on hand, prepare some; you will need ¼ c. per shake.
Freeze banana halves; youll need half a banana for each shake. - To prepare shake: Place all ingredients in a blender jar, and blend on high until very smooth, usually about 1 minute.
This will make one large, yummy, very nutritional shake.

You might want to just try adding some uncooked oatmeal to smoothies, as I have done this many times with no problems. Not so much work to make them up (as in cooking the oatmeal first) and you probably will get more nutritional value from not cooking! :)
