Crocheted Flower Scarf

closeup of scarf This works up in about 2 hours and can be made for all seasons. This one is for spring.
The cool thing about this too, is you can keep going and make table runners, pillow tops, or more.

Total Time: 2 hours or more, depending on experience.

Yield: 1

Supplies:

15-18 yd your choice of yarn ($.50)
1 Pair scissors ($.00)
1 size I hook ($.00)
22 buttons (optional) ($.50)
1 needle and thread (optional) ($.00)

Steps:

With a chain 10, slip stitch into the first chain. Repeat 5 times. This completes your first and only complete flower. Break off and loop the tail to the back side, then tie in a knot and snip off tails.

Each flower after the 1st will be making 4 petals. For the 5th, chain 5 (or half the length of the other petals), and slip stitch it into any of the petals of the first flower, then chaining 5 more to slip stitch into the center as before. Repeat this for the 6th petal, again making sure to put it in the center of the petal next to the first joined one.

Repeat this pattern, making sure you choose the same two petals from the previous flower. There should be 2 attached, then 1 free one, then 2 attached and 1 free one for 6 total.

When you have the length you want, stop and tie off the last flower. At this point, sew your buttons on if you want them. It is especially pretty if you have a variegated flower like I chose. My scarf is 22 flowers long, so plan your buttons and such according to how long you want yours.
Once the last flower is done, reattach your yarn to any loop. Chain 5 and make a slip stitch into the next loop or connected loop space. You will chain 5 no matter where you start so don't worry too much about that.

Once you slip stitch, chain 5 again for a picot (slip stitching back into the same spot), and continue on. The photo will help you see what it looks like.

Complete the "border" and you are done. Make this in summer Americana, fall colors or for the holidays!! N-JOY!!

This is very pretty, but I don't understand what the buttons are for or where they go. How wide is it, and would you attach strips side by side for runners, etc.?

I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner. I never ignore my responses for forgive me Pixie!!
The buttons were optional and would go in the center of each flower like a little flower might have a center.

It's about 4" wide. Yes, you could make this into a runner by doing more of the flowers, and attaching them as you go or in strips and then tying them together as strips.
That said, you could increase the size of the flowers some and you wouldn't need as many flowers, but you don't save any yarn or time.
