A great time saver at Thanksgiving is to make your mashed potatoes earlier in the day and put them in your crockpot on "warm". Just give them a stir every once in awhile and put the lid back on. This is helpful when you're trying to get everything on the table at once and keep everything warm.
I take the turkey out of the oven about 20-30 minutes prior to serving to let it "rest" before slicing it. I then make the gravy. The potatoes are already taken care of because they're mashed and in the crockpot keeping warm. Just dish them out.

This is a great time saving idea. I will try this! You've got my vote!:)
I tried this on Thanksgiving and it worked perfectly. I just peeled a 10 pound bag of russet potatoes and put them right into the crockpot. I added vegetable broth, roasted garlic cloves and a stick of butter (1/2 cup) and started them cooking on high first thing in the morning, before I got the turkey in the oven.
When I took the turkey out, I mashed the potatoes right in the pot, with a little heavy whipping cream and some salt and pepper. They were creamy and delicious. I'm making a pot of potato leek soup from the leftovers for dinner tonight.
I do this and they are just wonderful. Stay hot all through the meal. To make it even easier I use a crock pot liner. No clean up. Just grab the liner by the two ends and plop right into the serving bowl.
