I've been having a problem with my PTO cutting out. It happens once I've been running it for about a half hour and when I put it in reverse. This is a new problem, I've had this mower for about 10 years. Last week when I was cutting, the mower sputtered and died. I assumed I was out of gas, but I wasn't.
In an effort to get it running again I have replaced the following parts: fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition coil and plug, PTO relay, and the ignition switch (it's been acting up as well). The engine cranks, but won't turn over. Also I now notice a knock while cranking that wasn't there before. Could the fuel pump be installed wrong?

Have you replaced the carburetor? The fuel line may also be clogged.
Sounds like you are super handy!! My suggestion is to take a look at a few YouTube videos and see if you see something that may prompt you to revisit the updates you made:

I have found YouTube to be the best and using it (I am NOT handy), I fixed my vacuum twice and a weed wacker--my latest success.
I am very visual and seeing what is done and how the parts interact always helps me!
Post back with an update!
Problem solved. As it turns out, the carburetor was clogged. I had already taken off the carburetor once and cleaned and inspected it, but must have not one a good enough job. I removed the carb again and this time did a much better job cleaning being sure to blast every part with carb cleaner. I may end up bying a new one as they are not very expensive. Anyway, with all the new parts I installed and a clean carb my mower is running better than ever. Thanks
