The apartment that I will be moving into has light sand color walls and dark magohny wood trim. It also has light cream color carpet. What color curtains would be the best choice to use? I was leaning towards maybe a blue.

Blue would look nice but I don't think I would go with too dark of a blue (sapphire, navy). Maybe stay with a sky blue or maybe teal/turquoise?
What color is your furniture? If it's darker (darker brown, black) I'd say go more with the brighter/bolder (teal/turquoise). If it's a lighter color (light brown, beige, white) then maybe stick with the light blue?
I think a burgundy or goldish colors might work too, again, depending on the furniture colors that you've got to work with.
