I have oatmeal colored walls with medium tan colored cloth furniture. In between the windows is a stone fireplace. I have tried khaki drapes and it looked horrible, now dark brown looks worse. Please help me with any ideas.

I would use a lighter color, like yellow, mint green, or a light orange. A print would brighten up the room, too.
Yes, it sounds like you need a pop color or a pattern ... if you go for a pattern you can integrate the oatmeal and the tan into the pattern and choose another color to accent it... Also try some fabrics with Grays since you have a stone fireplace...that might work better than warm tones. But a bright color will offset all the neutrals and pattern will give it punch.
I love the classic combination of black and tan. Black is a great anchor color. Lighter colors in a room already full of neutrals will look washed out. Just be sure to open them daily to let in natural light. The stacked open panels will frame your windows and will look very sophisticated.
Sounds like some color is needed to make your room stand out.
You would probably be surprised as how well a nice blue & orange combination would go with your colors. Maybe blue curtains/sheers with an overlay of beige sheers and mixed blue & orange throw pillows.
Also, I have seen wine and blue/gray go well with tan and Ivory.
A mixed throw rug might help throw more of your choice of colors.
i always ike the look of a light tan color makes all the darker colors in the room come togeher.... i like the more sheer fabrics...
I agree with granny, all the neutrals have created a GREAT easel for some bold colors. I would suggest also red, or if there's a pattern you really enjoy (like pailsley or flower pattern). Go bold!
I agree with granny, a bold color or pattern would be great. I would say red or a flower pattern or Paisley, go bold because the neutrals are a great backdrop for that.
