What colour curtains work best for a brown sofa and cream yellow walls?

I would add some color, such as tangerine or yellow.
I agree with Judy and would go with orange, maybe with an accent pillow or two -- especially if you like the mid-century modern look!
If you're wanting a sophisticated or earthy look, I'd suggest textured brown curtains. If you want to add a punch of color, turquoise would be a good choice.
What vibe are you going for?
In the 1980s I had this color scheme in my living room and I used pops of green in my decor--including pillows and valances. My place was so dark, that drapes didn't work. It was an earthly vibe I was after so that worked.
Today, if I had a bright room and these colors, I might want to go neutral with egg shell curtains so the yellow in the walls pops and the brown becomes warmer.
If you are going for a vintage vibe, I would use orange (or turquoise) as other suggested.
If you are going for hip and happening, I would use a bright blue--maybe navy shiny fabric. That would bring a really modern pop into the space.
Blessings on your decorating!
The Blue /Turquoise colors(cool colors) work well with these colors. If you like( earthy colors) Burnt Orange, Golden Yellows,& Reds are a good choice. The possibilities are endless. Most of all have fun with your choices.
Are you referring to actual 'curtains' or perhaps drapes?
I only ask because usually drapes will be heavier and many time much richer in color than curtains.
You can always look at what a few designers like for this type of setting.

I love turquoise or blues as there are so many shades to pick from for accent items - curtains, pillows, rugs. pictures
You can always take a few pictures and go to Lowe's Home department and they will put your pictures on their computer and show you what each color would look like. You do not have to buy anything (but of course, they would like to sell you curtains, etc).
