Cut your candle wick before you relight it. It will not smoke as much. That smoke adheres to walls, making it necessary to paint sooner. The picture shows one wick cut, so you can see the difference.

I have used this tip for many years, when I receive a candle or buy a candle I always cut the wick before I light it and the candle last longer. At the time extinguish the candle I always pray that he melted candle wax out of the burnt candle and trim the wick to insure the next time I light the candle, it will be efficient.
This makes a noticeable difference, especially in candles that are in holders against the wall--keeps the wall soot free.
