I posted a feedback in response to another feedback from someone wanting to know how to get rid of dark circles around their eyes. I too have the same problem along with bags. I have had the bags since I was a child, and over the last several years noticed that I have the dark circles around my eyes. My mom, sister, (paternal) aunt have them.
At first it looks like we have eye make up on but it is not. I have noticed that as my mother got older, her got darker. I do not have any health problems and would like to know if there are any inexpensive and effective ways to lighten the area up and get rid of the bags without surgery or botox. It seems to be hereditary, and I do not like it.

in my family we all have dark circles - these are "allergy eyes" or so I've been told. It seems it is one indicator for potential allergies or maybe a side effect?
I've had luck with mineral makeup - it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, make me break out, or look like a hooker - it is very light. Saveral soapmakers have started making this & it is way cheaper than the name brands you see on HSN. (08/24/2006)

Avon has a nice new cream that took care of my dark circles. It is a jar divided in half with a gel and a cream for the lid and the under eye. I discovered that both the gel and the cream work the same for under eye circles. This cream provides a tightening and lifting feature.
Avon Anew Clinical Eye Lift.
Also, Essence of TIme Night Skin Conditioning Cream (from www.hsn.com) which works on bruises, too. This does not provide a tightening and lifting feature. (08/25/2006)

I have a tendency to allergy eyes and always use a dab of witch hazel under my eye cream when I apply it - It's an astringent and helps against puffiness. If my eyes get really enflamed or swollen the only thing that works is lying down with cool/cold cotton balls soaked with a tea solution. I have also found that using stye ointment on allergy irritated eyes can sooth them, too. Ans I use health food store allergy drops I can use often, even over my prescription ones - and/or plain Murine. (08/26/2006)
I read somewhere that if you cut a raw white potatoe and place it over your eye (10-15 minutes), it naturally bleaches the under eye area. The coldness of potato feels cool and refreshing to your skin and its not harmful, unless your allergic to potatoes. I got tired of waiting the 10 minutes, so I dont know if it works (08/28/2006)
