Another member - Pghgirl - gave a formula for taking care of this and I tried it - it worked. She will probably be along and provide her formula but I just used a gallon of tap water, added 1 1/2 cup white vinegar, 3/4 cup baking soda, about 2 or 3 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap and soaked my top in this solution overnight.
The vinegar & baking soda really froths up so be sure you use a large enough container or, since you only have a small item you could use less water and less of other ingredients. I do not think it will make a lot of difference if the amounts are not exact.
Thanks, cybergrannie! Glad it has worked for you!! Hope it works for the original poster! I have saved many an item with this combo! The only thing I will add is if there are stubborn spots to use the vinegar, baking soda and Dawn as a paste, no water. I only use the simple or original version because it is so much less, and I rub it into the spot...like a teaspoon of vinegar, baking soda and few drops of Dawn.
Proxide, baking soda, dish soap and water is he best ingredients I know of to get these stains out. Normally you need to mix these ingredients together in a very large pot and allow the item to soak over night. After this you can drop it in the machine and wash it as you normally do.
Drop a couple denture tabs into a bucket of water to remove stains from white clothing. It'll blast through coffee, tea, or tomato stains - all the hard stuff.
Here is a recipe for dye removal for clothing , carpet, and furniture . www.goodhousekeeping.com/
