My room looks unlike my usual areas, the bed is in a different spot, but I can't get the rest of room to 'balance'. I've lived here 15 years, but it's just not roomy. I unable to have knick knacks in pleasing areas. I can't afford a decorator, but need help badly!

The answer in this case:
1. Get rid of everything you don't need. Books you won't read in the next month or so, mementos of people who wouldn't even remember you, travel souvenirs (photos are better), gifts you were never crazy about, clothes that don't flatter you or fit well, ratty throws, trinkets and doodads that catch dust and don't go together, crafts you can't do this year, craft supplies you're saving for "someday," or have ideas for but no specific project for.
2. Organize. Get rid of heavy, bulky furniture and go for more lightweight, open stuff. Remove framed pictures in heavy glass and frames, for instance, and opt for canvas prints instead. Use open-sided bookcases. Donate heavy lamps and use candlestick lamps or even a constellation or ocean wave lamp.
3. Display. Now that you've gotten rid of what you don't need, display collections of your nice things that match. If every spare surface is covered with stuff and every shelf is packed full your room will look heavy and drab. Make space for the items you actually want to see.
