Last week was the end of Daylight Saving Time for most of us in the U.S. A common tip is to use it as a reminder to check your smoke alarm batteries. Here's another task to add to the list.
When I went to set my clocks ahead in the kitchen, I took the time to thoroughly clean the microwave. It gets wiped down pretty regularly but there was a surprising amount of greasy dust on the top and bottom. It's over our stove so I removed the vent fan filters and gave them a rinse too. I plan to do my oven this weekend so it is clean and ready for Thanksgiving and holiday baking.
So were you planning on leaving any tips for cleaning the microwave ?
I think white vinegar works pretty good.
I used a Mrs. Meyers cleaning spray inside and out. The microwave is relatively new so I was able to wipe it down easily and rinse out the filters. I expect I will have to use a bit more elbow grease next time.
In the past, I have run the glass tray and the filters through the dishwasher to get all the grease off. I have also microwaved a soapy sponge for 30 seconds and then used that to wipe down the inside and outside. Vinegar would also be a good cleaning choice as it cuts through grease well.
