We keep a large can (like stewed tomatoes) in the freezer where we pour our cooking grease from cooked ground beef, baked chicken, etc. Any liquid grease goes in the can until it is full. Then we put it in a plastic bag, tie the bag and it goes out with the trash on trash day. If the weather is hot, we try to put it in the trash as late as possible, so it doesn't become liquid. This keeps as much grease as possible from going down our drain.

This is good. I have done it for years, although I don't keep the can in the freezer. With the prohibitive cost of plumber services, I would never carelessly dump grease down the drain.
You can keep it in the fridge. The grease will stay pretty well congealed.
We seem to have more space in the freezer than in the fridge. We have an upright freezer in the basement to hold most of our frozen items. Glad to know the fridge would work as well.
I use a cool whip bowl with cover in freezer. You can empty it when close to full into a bag and dispose or can throw away whole container if you have more containers available.
