Total Time: 10-15 minutes

Yield: 2 bags

Supplies:

• 2 paper lunch bags (any color)
• scissors
• glue stick
• red construction paper (for medical cross)
• other construction paper (any color for handles)
• stapler
• medical supplies (any appropriate for age of child)
• marker

 

 

Steps:

1. Cut approximately 5 inches off the top of each paper lunch bag.

 
2. Cut handles for both sides of the bags out of any color of construction paper. I found it easier to fold half a sheet into a fourth and cut a square out of the middle. This leaves you with a connected double handle for each side, offering more durability.

3. Staple a handle to both sides of the bag, making half go inside and half outside.

 

 
4. Cut a first aid cross out of red construction paper for each bag. It helped me to draw them first! Glue the crosses on the front of bag. Add a name to the bag if you choose.

 
5. Fill the bags with medical supplies. Obviously some items aren't appropriate for children, but if this is an at-home project you can be more lenient. Some examples of items to include are: Band-aids, cotton balls, gauze, kid scissors, Kleenex, tape, plastic bottle, and tongue depressors. You can also include cut-outs of items, like an x-Ray, syringe, medicine, thermometer, etc. Lastly, most Dollar stores have inexpensive packs of toy doctor items, such as stethoscopes, reflex hammers, cell phone, blood pressure cuff, as well as many more items.
